Description:

Digital Transformation is a key buzzword in many industries. The lab “Digital transformation in the insurance industry” aims to give the students a comprehensive perspective on various trends and their impacts on the insurance industry. Although the focus will be on the Italian insurance market, many aspects are however applicable independently from the geographical focus (and, potentially, also into other industries). During the 10 lessons, external and internal factors will be assessed, giving always practical insights and lessons learned, with the objective to give a “from within” perspective to the students into what entails to be an “innovation manager”. The key sections are: key trends impacting the industry, strategy and digital transformation, frameworks and methodologies, the ecosystem paradigm, people and change management.

Description:

Access requirements: it is preferable, but not mandatory, to have attended the MIE New Business Start Up course. Since the period is very short (20 hours), it’s required to already have a good familiarity with the main tools to be used (Pitch, BP, Business Model, etc.)

The main aim of “How to accelerate STEM!” is to promote a start-up culture at the University of Milan. It's a laboratory born within MIE - Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, but it's opens to all those who in UNIMI want to try “their hands” at the birth of new businesses and are aware of the importance, for the economy and the entire economic system, of the topics linked to new startups.

“How to accelerate STEM!” brings students and innovative ideas from university researchers together, introducing students as early as possible to the idea of starting their own company, as well as teaching business skills and encouraging interdisciplinary thinking. This approach is intended to strengthen perception of the University of Milan as a problem-solver and innovative partner for the industrial sector and as a platform for launching brand new initiatives.

From research to practice - Transforming innovative ideas in opportunities for launching startups

The acceleration program is an interdisciplinary interface between "hard sciences" and managerial-economic sciences. “How to accelerate STEM!” aims to combine these sciences within MIE and Fondazione UniMi, in collaboration with external experts from science and business.

Research and teaching activities are at the core of our university since ever. The inventions are answering a “generic” market need that has to be better specified to transform the new invention into an Innovation (invention + market).

University provides “Tecnology Transfer” services consisting in Patent support and match making with the market. Fondazione UniMi provides an Open Innovation Program with the help of a team of mentor to accelerate the meeting of the project with the market and the financial opportunities.

One of the aims of the accelerator program at the University of Milan is to develop a complete set of documents - between them a promising business model, a pitch presentation and a full business plan - for testing these tools with the help of experts and customers (if mature); and also, to prepare the initiative for further programs such as the Seed4Innivation by Fondazione UniMi or public grants.

In the process, the students will be constantly followed, being side by side with experts on all start-up-related issues.
